Frequently Asked Questions and Tips

"Do the pipes or bowls get hot when they're in use?"

No. Stainless steel has a much higher specific heat than glass (and most other materials), meaning it takes much more energy to heat up. If you've never been burned by a glass pipe, then it won't happen with stainless steel.

"Is stainless steel safe to smoke out of?"

Yes. AMW uses only the highest quality American sourced materials, usually 304 stainless steel, although 316 is sometimes used as well. Many household and kitchen utensils as well as other smoking accessories such as nails and screens are made from the same materials. During fabrication, each component is meticulously cleaned inside and out before welding using modern backpurging techniques for a clean joint.

"Does the smoke taste like metal?"

No. However, the first time you use your AMW pipe, you may notice a very slight metallic taste. This goes away almost immediately, and does not return even after cleanings.

"How do I clean my AMW pipe?"

The ceramic powdercoat applied to your pipe makes it even easier to clean than raw stainless steel. In general, household rubbing alcohol works great. Avoid aggressive or salt based cleaners. For specific care instructions, look up your pipe's serial number.

Tip: If you have a small handheld piece without an ice chamber, store it in the freezer. Put a freshly loaded bowl in place onto the cold pipe for a chilled smoke. Just make sure you wipe the frost off the mouthpiece first, so your face doesn't stick!
